![]() What gives credibility to Chan's ministry is that he lives out what he preaches to others. Together these three volumes form a trilogy of sorts guaranteed to draw a line in the sand and mark off those who are truly disciples of Christ. ![]() In recommending "Crazy Love," I would also refer the reader to two other recent books that strike a similar chord: "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper and "Radical" by David Platt. ![]() In reading this book I found myself hearing again, seventy years later, the thoughts of Dietrich Bonhoeffer in "The Cost of Discipleship," albeit in a more contemporary easy-to-read tone. He challenges us to examine ourselves to see if we are indeed if the faith if we find ourselves all too easily shrugging off our Lord's radical commands to deny ourselves for the sake of making Him known. Lulled to rest by a Gospel that asks little of the believer even though it cost God everything, is it any wonder that the church has lost much of its effectiveness for Christ in today's world? Chan does a capable job of shaking us from our complacency and calling us to a life of genuine obedience to the Scriptures, imploring us to take Jesus' words seriously. Francis Chan is one of the new breed of pastors whom God is raising up to awaken the sleeping church. ![]()
